Bad News about Course Sharing

Update: 11/15/2015

I recently wrote to someone knowledgeable about the history and details of the uPro G1 device. Disappointingly, I received no response. So without a lead on loading other courses to the device...when this battery dies, or I move away from my local area with my saved courses, this device will be relegated to the dust bin.

Note:  After mid-November this blog will only be available at uprogps.blogspot.com.  The uprogps.org domain will be inactive.

I recently received a copy of a Pro Mode Course from another user.  It did not work in my uPro device. It appears that when a Pro Mode Course is downloaded, a header and footer (it appears to be about 16 bytes) are added to the file. Anybody have any experience with this? Here's what shows up on the device...sadly.

And can anyone confirm that Basic Mode Courses will transfer?

Update 7/19/2016

I have posted a Basic Mode Course here. It is for a course in the Seattle area of Washington. If you own a uPro, try using it and see if it comes up "error" like the one above.  If it works, please contact me.

  1. I'll see if I have a basic course that I can send you. I've kind of given up hope of getting it working, but I'll give it another go before it heads to the bin.

  2. I just found this site as I was reloading my uPro G1 today for a NC trip. I have a decent size cache of uPro Pro Mode courses I saved off before they shut down (about 118 total, wish it were more) saved to my hard drive.

I begged Callaway to either keep a simple website online to acquire the rest of the courses (which I had the right to use as an Unlimited Pro Mode course owner for my G1), or let me provide a 2TB hard drive and they could download them to it for me. Just throwing them away was pointless for all parties (thanks, Callaway).

My courses mainly encompasses states around Virginia, and then NC, Texas, Hawaii, and a few randoms I'd like to play someday (Bandon Dunes, etc).

Not sure how much experience/knowledge you have on loading manually to the uPro based on this one blog entry. However, I can guarantee Pro Mode courses can be copied and used if you do it right.

If you copy the entire numerical folder for Pro Mode into the uPro microSD card course_data folder, it will show up as usable course.

If you right click/Properties the numeric course 'number' folder it should say 37 Files, 18 Folders and you can just copy it onto the uPro microSD card in the course_data folder.

If the Pro Mode folder you get does not exactly match the expected course 'number', it won't load as seen above.

For example, I have a listing I saved for Bandon Dunes Resort - Bandon Trails. inside there is the exact number it must be labeled as to register properly on the uPro, which for this course happens to be 003714762292120.

If I copy that folder as-is, it will work just fine. inside it are all 18 holes folders (2 files per hole folder) and a course_info XML doc at the end of the folder listing.

Whatever you got from someone didn't contain all the necessary data or didn't get copied into the right area, or was named incorrectly is my best guess.

It's sad. I wish there were some site that had the access to the Callaway uPro course listings to download. I don't need the site, just the freaking courses. the uPro is still the best GPS device i've ever used on a course, and is the perfect size (vs toting my giant cell phone around and trying to use that now with a GolfPad GPS app). sigh.

    1. Hi Swami,
I read your message. I have had my Upro since 2012 or before, I love it and think it is by far the best gps. I am now on my 3rd outer cover which I got off ebay. The unit I bought was in excellent condition. My problem is I would love to put my courses on it but have not had any luck. The new unit came complete with sd card and everything. So if you are still getting posts from here I would love to hear from you and share courses if possible. I'm in NC so you may already have some of the ones I have. I want to golf my way across the US one day so the more the better for me. LOL. Thanks and I hope to hear from you.

  3. Certainly I've loaded my own Pro course folders, but have you loaded course folders owned by another user?

  4. I have tried many things. My young puppy destroyed my Upro but I had all my data still so I ordered one off of Ebay. There is a system file that has all our information but it is also stored on-board the main microprocessor. This is what it uses to boot with. For our files to work on our device we need to "force" our system data onto the microprocessor. If someone had an eeprom writer or way to access the MP, I think it would work. You would have to have the system data on your device of the person who sent you the files. Data recovery company nearby said it would be at least $100 for them and probably another $50 or so to be safe. Not sure I want it to work that badly. Hope this helps.
